🚧 Slow Down: Roadwork Ahead
When Life Puts Up the “Roadwork” Signs
We’ve all been there—cruising along the highway with the wind in our hair, everything feeling smooth and effortless. Then, out of nowhere, those signs appear: Roadwork Ahead. Detour. Slow Down.
It’s frustrating, right? But what do we do?
We move around it. Sometimes, it’s as simple as changing lanes and finding the clearest path forward.
We follow the detour. When the usual route is blocked, we trust the signs and take a different path to keep going.
We slow down and pass through it. Some challenges just require patience and a steady pace.
What we don’t do is throw up our hands, turn off the car, and say, “Well, I guess this trip is over!”
Because roadwork is never the end of the journey—it’s just part of it.
I’ll never forget when I hit my own “roadwork moment.” Years ago, I had just started focusing on my health after years of quick fixes, extreme diets, and burnout. I was finally seeing progress and feeling good when life threw me a curveball. My schedule got chaotic, my motivation plummeted, and I felt like I was spinning my wheels.
I started slipping into old patterns—grabbing fast food on the way home and making excuses to skip workouts because it wasn’t as “easy” with my new schedule.
I thought, “Maybe this isn’t for me. Maybe I should just stop.” But then I asked myself: What if I just kept going, even if it’s not perfect?
So, I slowed down. I simplified my workouts. I planned just one meal at a time instead of trying to overhaul everything. I gave myself grace but kept my foot on the gas.
That experience taught me this: Roadwork doesn’t mean you stop. It just means you adjust.
How This Applies to You
Life’s “roadwork” moments show up when we least expect them. A rough week at work, family commitments, a weekend of overindulgence—it can feel like everything’s piling up.
But here’s the truth: These moments aren’t your stopping point. They’re a reminder to adapt and keep going.
Missed a workout? Do a shorter one tomorrow.
Overindulged at dinner? Balance it out with a nutrient-packed breakfast.
Feeling overwhelmed? Take one small step forward—because small steps still move you closer to your goals.
This week, I challenge you to embrace life’s roadwork. When you hit a bump, remind yourself: I am navigating this. I am still moving forward.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence.
